We stock and install CWS-compatible doors throughout Tampa, and most complete CWS door installations run between $1,800 and $4,200 depending on the door size, frame condition, and hardware package. If your CWS door was damaged by a storm, has a hinge or roller failure, or simply won’t seal against Florida humidity anymore, we can typically have a technician out within a day or two to assess it. Most homeowners discover the problem the same way: a door that used to close with a soft click now needs a shoulder, or there’s daylight showing through the weatherstripping that wasn’t there last spring.
Lightwell Windows Tampa is an independent service provider, not affiliated with CWS. But we’ve installed enough CWS doors across South Tampa, Carrollwood, and Westchase to know their hardware and frame dimensions better than most. Keith Yamada, our owner, will read the frame before touching anything: checking for rot, settling, and water intrusion that a less patient installer would miss. That’s the difference between a door that works for a season and one that works for a decade.
Which CWS Models This Applies To
CWS manufactures entry doors, French door systems, and sliding glass doors across several product lines, and the installation specifics change depending on which one you have. The compatibility gotcha to know: CWS sliding doors from the 6000 and 8000 series use different roller carriage heights than the newer 9000 series, so a replacement roller that fits one will not sit flush in the other. If you’re not sure which series you have, look for the manufacturer label on the door’s edge or top rail. If that label has worn off, a measurement of the roller wheel diameter and the track width will usually tell us what we’re dealing with.
For entry and French doors, CWS uses reinforced corner blocks and multi-point locking hardware on their impact-rated models, which means the hinge and lock prep is not something you want guessed at. We match the OEM part when the door is under warranty or when the original hardware is still structurally sound. When the OEM part is a known failure point, we’ll tell you that too and offer a quality aftermarket equivalent, usually at a lower price than the factory replacement.

Signs Your CWS Door Installation Is Failing
- The door drags or scrapes on the threshold. Most of the time this is roller wear on a slider or hinge sag on a swing door. In Tampa’s humidity, the frame can also swell slightly, which makes a door that was fine in January bind by July.
- You can see daylight around the door edges. This means the weatherstripping has compressed beyond its useful life or the panel has shifted out of square. Either way, you’re paying to air-condition the neighborhood.
- The locking hardware sticks or refuses to engage. Multi-point locks on CWS impact doors depend on precise panel alignment. When the door settles even an eighth of an inch, the lock points miss their keepers and the handle feels stiff.
- Water staining appears at the bottom corners after rain. That’s a sill cap or frame seal failure. Left alone in Tampa’s afternoon downpours, it becomes a rot problem behind the jamb, and that changes the job from a simple install to frame repair.
- The door is visibly out of square or you notice a gap at the top hinge side while the bottom is tight. This points to a failing hinge or, on sliders, a collapsed roller on one end. A door in this condition will only get harder to operate and easier to force open.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a standard CWS door installation in Tampa, here’s what we typically see:
- Single entry door replacement: $1,800 to $3,200 installed, depending on whether it’s a standard slab or an impact-rated panel with multi-point hardware.
- French door system (double door): $2,800 to $4,800 installed, with the spread driven by panel width, glass package, and whether the existing frame can be reused.
- Sliding glass door replacement: $2,200 to $4,200 installed, which includes new rollers, track work, and weatherstripping matched to the CWS series.
- Frame repair or sill replacement (when water damage is present): adds $400 to $1,200 depending on how far the rot has traveled.
Every number we quote is a written line-item price before work starts. No surprises at the end of the day, and no change orders once we’re on site unless you ask for something different. Our workmanship is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the finished install is not right, we make it right. No debate, no countdown.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do a few things yourself: clean the track, check for loose screws in the handle and hinge plates, and take a careful look at the weatherstripping to see if it’s torn or flattened. Those diagnostic steps cost nothing and can often tell us over the phone what we’re dealing with.
What we don’t recommend is pulling a CWS door panel out of its frame without help. These doors are heavy, often over 150 pounds for an impact-rated panel, and the frames hold them under tension that releases fast when you remove the wrong screw. Roller swaps on a slider can pinch fingers, and getting the panel back into square is a two-person job even for our experienced crew. If you’re in Tampa and want an honest assessment before anything gets disassembled, call us at (850) 360-6785. We’ll talk through what you’re seeing and whether it’s a $40 part or a new door.
FAQs
How long should a CWS door last in Florida? A properly installed CWS door in Tampa typically lasts 15 to 20 years, with hardware and weatherstripping needing attention every 5 to 8 years due to humidity and salt air exposure in coastal neighborhoods. Impact-rated doors hold up longer when the frame was sealed correctly at installation.
Can a failing CWS door be repaired instead of replaced? Yes, in many cases. Roller swaps, hinge replacement, weatherstripping, and lock alignment fix a large share of the doors we see without requiring a full tear-out. We’ll give you the repair option first if the panel and frame are still sound, and the replacement option only when repair would be throwing money at a door that’s already past its useful life. Call (850) 360-6785 and describe what the door is doing; we’ll tell you which direction makes sense before anyone schedules a visit.
How long does a CWS door installation take? A single entry door swap usually takes one day, including cleanup and haul-away of the old door. French doors and sliders can run one to two days if frame work or sill repair is involved. We work around your family’s schedule, using quiet tools during nap hours and keeping drop cloths down so nothing reaches your floors.
Do you stock CWS door parts on the truck? We carry the most common CWS rollers, hinges, weatherstripping profiles, and lock components on our service vehicles. For less common series like the 9000-line rollers or custom glass packages, we source the part within a few days. When we arrive, we’ll have a written price in hand before any work begins, and shoe covers on before we step inside.
