PGT door installation in Tampa typically runs $450 – $1,150 per door for a quality retrofit or replacement, with most jobs completed in a single visit by a two-person crew. We stock PGT-compatible rollers, hinges, sweeps, and weatherstripping in our Tampa shop, and we carry the framing and threshold parts needed to get your door closing the way it did the day it was installed. Most homeowners discover a failing PGT door part the same way: a door that suddenly drags, a latch that won’t catch, or a draft that shows up every time the afternoon thunderstorms roll through.
What you’re dealing with is usually not the whole door. It’s one component that wore out first, and matching that component to your PGT model is the difference between a repair that lasts and one that fails again before next hurricane season. Keith Yamada and our crew have been doing this in Tampa long enough to know that a door track in a Davis Islands beach house wears differently than one in a Westchase stucco home, and we read the frame before we touch anything.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
PGT builds their door lines under several series names, and the parts don’t always cross over the way homeowners assume. The WinGuard series, which is the impact-rated line most common in Tampa’s coastal and flood-zone homes, uses a reinforced roller assembly that is not interchangeable with the standard Spectrum or Premier sliding door rollers. Same track width on paper, different wheel profile in practice, and forcing the wrong roller in will chew up the bottom track within months. The 5000 Series hinged patio doors use a different hinge plate pattern than the 7000 Series, so measure the hinge screw spacing before ordering anything online.
For OEM versus aftermarket on PGT specifically: the OEM rollers and hinges carry a nominal premium, but PGT’s powder-coating on their coastal hardware holds up measurably better against Tampa’s salt air than the bare zinc aftermarket equivalents. We keep both on hand and will tell you plainly which one makes sense for your door, your exposure, and your budget. Look for a small white label on the door edge or the top corner of the glass: the series name and date code are there on most PGT doors made after 2010.
Lightwell Windows Tampa is an independent service provider and not affiliated with PGT. We work on PGT doors every week, but PGT does not set our prices, our schedule, or the way we treat your floors.

Signs Your PGT Door Installation Is Failing
- The door drags or sticks in one spot along the track. This is almost always a flattened roller wheel or a track that has collected Tampa grit and corrosion. A worn roller puts uneven pressure on the track and will eventually score the aluminum beyond repair.
- You feel a draft or see daylight at the bottom or sides. The weatherstripping and door sweep compress over time, especially in Florida heat, and once they lose their shape the door stops sealing. Your air conditioner notices immediately, even if you don’t.
- The latch or deadbolt no longer lines up with the strike plate. This points to a sagging panel, which usually means a worn hinge or a roller height adjustment that has slipped. Forcing the lock closed every night only bends the hardware further.
- The door is harder to open after heavy rain. In Tampa, moisture swells the frame material, and on a PGT door with a marginal install or old seals, that swelling transfers straight to the panel. This is a signal that water has been getting where it shouldn’t.
- You hear grinding when the door moves. Sand, corrosion, or a disintegrating bearing inside the roller. Once you hear it, the part is done. Continuing to use the door risks damaging the track, which is a more expensive repair than the roller ever was.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what a PGT door installation or part replacement generally runs in Tampa, with labor and materials together:
- Roller replacement (sliding door): $180 – $340 for a full set on one panel, including track cleaning and adjustment
- Hinge replacement (hinged patio door): $220 – $420, including realignment of the panel
- Weatherstripping and sweep replacement: $120 – $250, installed and sealed
- Threshold rebuild or replacement: $280 – $550, depending on rot and frame condition
- Full PGT door retrofit (new door in existing opening): $650 – $1,150 for standard sizes, more for impact-rated or custom widths
The range depends on what we find when we pull the door: rot hidden under the threshold, a track that has been chewed up by a dead roller, or framing that has settled. You get a written price before any work starts, every time, and that price doesn’t move unless you ask us to do more. Every part we install is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: wipe the track clean, look for visible wear on the rollers, and confirm whether the strike plate is loose. That’s the honest limit for most homeowners. Getting a PGT door out of its track to replace rollers is not a one-person job, and most of the failed PGT hardware we see in Tampa is the result of a previous DIY attempt that left a good door with a bent frame or a broken glass edge.
The safety line we draw is simple: if the job requires lifting a glass panel out of a track or working near tensioned hardware, call a pro. Glass panels on PGT sliding doors run 80 to 150 pounds, and when one drops, it doesn’t just break, it drops as a sheet of shards. Call (850) 360-6785, tell us the symptom, and we’ll bring the right part and the right lifting gear on the first trip.
FAQs
Rollers and weatherstripping typically last 8 to 12 years in Tampa’s humidity and salt air, while hinges and frames can go 15 to 20 with proper maintenance. Coastal homes closer to the bay tend to see faster wear on any exposed metal hardware.
Rollers cannot be repaired, only replaced. Weatherstripping can sometimes be re-seated, but once it has compressed or cracked, replacement is the only fix that actually seals. We’ll tell you which situation you have before quoting anything. Call (850) 360-6785 for an exact quote, estimates are free.
Most single-part replacements take 60 to 90 minutes once we’re on site, and a full PGT door retrofit is usually a half-day job. We schedule the time, show up on time, and leave the area cleaner than we found it.
We stock the most common PGT rollers, hinges, sweeps, and weatherstripping for the WinGuard, Spectrum, and 5000/7000 series doors in our Tampa shop, along with compatible hardware for CGI, CWS, and ES Windows doors. If your door needs something less common, we can typically source it within a few days.
If your PGT door is dragging, leaking air, or not latching, call (850) 360-6785 for a free estimate. We’ll send a background-checked, uniformed technician who will put the price in writing before any work begins, wear shoe covers inside your home, and leave a photo of the clean-up before walking out the door.
